Wishing Clouds is an interactive installation which invites the community to throw their wishes onto qipao clouds. This is a remembering of the Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees that I visited as a child in Hong Kong. The community is invited to write wishes on scrolls and throw them onto the clouds. If the scroll hangs on first throw, or lands highly, good fortune will bring your wishes to come true. This tradition originated from the Taoist beliefs that trees protecting temples are inherently gods. Elements of 旗袍(Qipao/Cheongsam) are integrated as it is important to wear a new one each year to 拜年 (bailin). I hope the community enjoys my whimsical ways of remembering and recreating Chinese New Year in Australia.
